ICOA Ladies Choice Rally
Report
By Dennis McCartney |
We had a great ride up on
Friday. Our first stop was
Bob Logues Honda in Williamsport,
PA. Bob is one of the original
Honda dealers (Since 1959)
and has a Honda Motorcycle
museum in his dealership.
Keeps a nice 81 there among
the other highly collectible
models(old 305 Super Hawks,
CX650 Turbo w/0 miles, lots
of old trials an MX bikes,
etc). A nice guy and always
fun to visit. We then headed
for Wellsboro. Route 287
from Williamsport to Wellsboro
has to be one of the top
10 roads in the country.
(Jean Paul: If you think
those roads we went on last
fall were good wait till
you see this one!) Great
road surface, beautiful turns
and straights, terrific scenery
and no traffic. We just cooked
all the way. I must have
set a decent pace because
Mickey didn't yell at me
once to get going....Arrived
in Wellsboro and met up with
the wives who had gone ahead
on four wheels. Checked into
the Canyon Motel which is
one block off Main Street
and met some of the folks
from Ontario. Nice bunch.
Dinner that night at the
Steak House. So so food at
reasonable prices.
Woke up Saturday morning
to the sound of rain so I
turned over for another 40
winks. An hour later I couldn't
hear it raining anymore so
I got up hopeful for some
riding. No such luck. The
bikes were covered with snow!
Just an inch or two but enough
to kill riding for the day.
Who ever heard of it snowing
in May? Susan said she thinks
the terrorists are messing
with the weather. I don't
know about that... Breakfast
at the "Famous Wellsboro
Diner" and it was off
(in Jack and Nancy's Suburban)
to Corning, NY. Toured the
Corning Museum of Glass and
then went to downtown Corning
for lunch. Glass Museum is
pretty interesting but a
little pricey at $12.00 per
person. Made a note for next
time to visit the National
Warplane Museum (www.warplane.org)
and the Glenn H.Curtiss Museum
(www.linkny.com/CurtissMuseum/)
Both were highly recommended
by the locals. Back to Wellsboro
for a late supper at the "Timeless
Destination" Italian
restaraunt. Neatly decorated,
good food and service reasonably
priced and cheerfully served.
Back to the room in time
for a replay of the AMA Superbike
Race. Ride home Sunday on
our new favorite Route 287
again. Temp 39 F so we were
seriously bundled up. Next
year the girls are talking
about finding a warmer climate
for the Ladies Choice Rally
or holding it later in the
year.
Would have been nice if
a few more members showed
up but as it was it turned
out to be a nice weekend
with friends and isn't that
after all what a CBX Club
rally is supposed to be?
