How Many CBX's are there?

All we wanted to know was: Does anyone really know how many CBX Motorcycles were built?
Boy did we open a can of worms…….
Here’s how it started:

Does anyone know for sure how many CBX's were produced?

Here's what I heard:
· 1979 23,700
· 1980 7,508
· 1981 10,981
· 1982 11,200
Anybody got anything more definitive?
I am told the 1982 number may be higher than this.

Dennis McCartney

According to Pete Ruff's survey and part number search a few years ago he came up with these numbers and Pete knows everything about CBX's:-)

79Z 24,531
80A 4,606
81B 3,754
82C 5,311

"Take care of your CBX's and each other"

Refer to this text from Jens of about a year ago. Seems the best guess I've
seen. Only about 300 '81/82's got to the UK. Remember that Honda was
selling motors to frame builders like Moto Martin, etc

Cheers
Ed

Always ask the Danish CBX Club!

CBX 1000 Z ('79) all built between April-Dec 1978 = 24531

CBX 1000 A ('80) some where built in Japan - June 1979
The rest built in USA Feb-May 1980 all engines built in Japan&shipped to US=4434
CBX 1000 B @81) all built between Jan-March 1981 = 3754
CBX 1000 C '82) all built between Jun-Oct 1981 = 2737
Total CBX Production = 35,456

Also check out the "roundtable talk" from the designers of the CBX back
then on our site www.CBX.dk !

Sincerely
JCBX

Check Pete's foot notes at the bottom of the chart. He thinks that the
engine numbers are closer to the actual production number than the frame
numbers.

Those are the number of motors not complete bikes. According to the
vital statistics there were only 2,737 (approx.) frames made for the '82. I
would think that the frame numbers are the determining factor.

CBXman.com Conclusion

We are going to go with Pete Ruff’s count in spite of the very strong presentation from Jens at the Denmark CBX Club. His research appears to be more complete and besides that we met Pete once and he is the smartest CBX guy we know (next to Dave McMunn of course….)
